The Treatment of Endocrine-Disruptive Chemicals in Wastewater through Asymmetric Reverse Osmosis Membranes: A Review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) present in aquatic environment have been regarded as detrimental organic pollutants that pose significant adverse impacts on human health and the ecosystem. The removal of EDCs is highly desired to mitigate their harmful effects. Physical treatment through membrane-based separation processes an attractive approach, it can effectively remove a wide range recalcitrant nonorganic EDCs. In particular, reverse osmosis (RO) process has shown promise removing various concentrations from different sources. Recently, development innovative asymmetric RO membranes become forefront this field. Various membrane modification strategies commenced address limitations commercial membranes. This review provides overview recent advances for EDC water wastewater system. potential areas improvement are also highlighted. Based existing literature using water, most investigated bisphenol A (BPA) caffeine concentration 200 ppb 100 ppm. Polyamide bodies with efficiency ~30 99%, largely depending type treated EDCs, well properties It demonstrated performance be further heightened by tailoring optimizing operating conditions process.

Dsorption of estrone on nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes in water and wastewater treatment.

Adsorption of the trace contaminant estrone, a natural hormone and commonly abundant in surface waters and in treated as well as untreated wastewaters, to eight commercial nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membranes was investigated under well defined conditions. Experiments were conducted in stainless steel stirred cells by spiking trace levels (100 ng x L(-1)) of estrone into five different ...

Development of antifouling reverse osmosis membranes for water treatment: A review.

With the rapidly increasing demands on water resources, fresh water shortage has become an important issue affecting the economic and social development in many countries. As one of the main technologies for producing fresh water from saline water and other wastewater sources, reverse osmosis (RO) has been widely used so far. However, a major challenge facing widespread application of RO techno...

Chromium Removal from Wastewater by Reverse Osmosis

This study describes the removal of chromium from wastewater using pressure-driven membrane separation processes. It describes the rejection of trivalent chromium using a commercial membrane for reverse osmosis typed RO98pHt (Alfa Laval, Sweden). Model solutions of chromium were used for performing of separation experiments. The effects of feed pH, chromium concentration and temperature were in...

Removal of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) using low pressure reverse osmosis membrane (LPROM).

Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are the focus of current environmental issues, as they can cause adverse health effects to animals and human, subsequent to endocrine function. The objective of this study was to remove a specific compound of EDCs (i.e. pentachlorophenol, C(6)OCL(5)Na, molecular weight of 288 g/mol) using low pressure reverse osmosis membrane (LPROM). A cross flow module of...
